2014 Farm-City Festival November 21 & 22

Farm City GraphicThe Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County Farm Bureau, Jackson County Extension, and Farm Credit of Northwest Florida have teamed up to develop the first Jackson County Farm City Festival.  For the previous 40 years, Jackson County has celebrated Farm City Week with a banquet or a breakfast with the highlights being the annual awards and recognition given to outstanding farmers and ranchers in the county.  This year the Recognition Breakfast will be the kickoff activity for a two-day festival to showcase the heritage and importance of agriculture to the county.

PB ChallengePeanut Butter Challenge – 11/21/14

For the third year, Jackson County Extension is sponsoring the Peanut Butter Challenge.  Families, farms, individuals and organizations will be collecting jars of peanut butter to donate to a charitable organization.  This year all of the peanut butter donated by the community will be donated to the Backpack for KIDS program.  Donate jars of peanut butter with drop off locations: Extension Office, Campbellton Farm Service, either of the Jackson County Public Libraries, or the Farm City Breakfast.

Farm-City Recognition Breakfast – 11/21/14 6:30 to 9:00 AM

The Chamber of Commerce will provide a community Farm-City Recognition Breakfast Friday will be held on Friday morning.  A buffet breakfast will be served beginning at 6:30 AM through 7:30 AM at Rivertown Community Church (4534 Lafayette Street aka Hwy 90).  Award presentations will begin at 7:30 and be made for the Farm Family, Agricultural Innovator, and the Peanut, Cotton, Corn, Forester, Conservationist, Hay Producer, and Cattlemen of the Year.  This is a sponsored event, which is free to the public.

Antique TractorsTractor Drive – 11/21/14 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Antique tractors will be offloaded at the Jackson County Agriculture Center, 3631 Highway 90 West, Marianna Florida.  Registration will begin at 9:00 AM Central time, tractor lineup at 9:30,  with the actual Tractor Drive leaving at 10:00 AM.  The first leg of the drive will be to travel 6.1 miles east into downtown area around the Marianna Farmer’s Market.  Drivers will create a static display around the Farmer’s Market and eat a Dutch treat lunch at local businesses.  At 2:00 PM the antique tractors will begin the return leg of the drive back to the Agriculture Center.  Farms, antique tractor collectors, 4-H clubs, FFA Chapters, and civic organizations are encouraged to participate in the drive.  Tractors must be 1980 or older model tractors.  Wagons with club members can be pulled behind the tractors, but must have at least one adult chaperone in the wagon with youth, and must have an adult tractor driver.  Tractor drive participants are not required to participate in the tractor pull competition the following day.

Lawn Mower Pull – 11/21/14 6:00 PM

Lawn mowers or garden tractors will have a pull on Friday night starting at 6:00 PM, following the tractor drive, at the Jackson County Agriculture Center.

Antique Tractor PullAntique Tractor Pull – 11/22/14 8:30 AM

Antique Tractors will compete by pulling a sled based on tractor weight classes.  Admission is free to the public. Tractor Pull participants must be registered  by 8:30 AM Central Time, a drivers meeting will be held at 8:45 with the pull getting underway at 9:00.  The entry fee is $10 per pull.  Trophies will be presented to the top three finishers in each class. Camp sites are available for Tractor Pull participants at the Ag Center for $17 per night.  Food and craft vendors will also be on site on Saturday during the pull, so this will be a fun event for the whole family.
