4-H School Programs
4-H School Enrichment is a planned sequence of learning experiences which involves direct teaching by extension staff or trained volunteers as part of the school curriculum. Programs, activities, and events rotate on the 9-week grading period. Classrooms may participate in one or all of the following ways:
- Classroom Clubs - These clubs function like community clubs, but meet during school hours. The 4-H agent will provide club orientation and officer training, but teachers are the club advisors. This type of club is excellent for youth that have difficulty finding transportation to and from after-school meetings. To request more information about classroom clubs, e-mail the 4-H Agent.
- Jackson County Ag Adventures - An Agriculture Education Program for 5th grade students. Teachers prep students using Ag Adventure classroom kits with background information and student activities that are agriculture based. Students then attend an interactive hands-on field trip at the UF North Florida Research Center Beef Unit to learn about beef, cotton, peanuts, dairy, and agriculture by products. This field trip is usually held during national 4-H week (the first full week in October).
- 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest - A public speaking program for 4, 5, and 6 grades in which students learn how to select and research a topic, develop an outline, write, and deliver a speech. Classroom winners compete in the school contest. School winners compete in the county contest, held February 21st. First place county winners receive a full scholarship to 4-H summer camp.
